Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul ,
And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all .
And sweetest in the gale is heard
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.
I've heard it in the chillest land ,
And on the strangest sea ;
Yet , never , in extremity ,
It asked a crumb of me.

詩分三節 ,第一節以羽毛的輕盈描述希望所帶來的溫暖 ,第二節以暴風雨來描繪環境的險惡,藉此襯托希望足以鼓舞人心 , 最後一小節 詩人表達自己所見所聞,指出所謂希望是很有節操不隨便乞討或接受贈與 ! 喜歡 Emily Dickinson ,她的用字淺白卻富涵哲思,意境也深遠 !
